Covid-19 Updates

Health MECs give COVID-19 update

Government had its hands full defending at least 90 legal challenges of the lockdown. Co-operative Governance Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma told the National Council of Provinces that many of the challenges have been settled out of court.

She again was called on to defend lockdown decisions during a debate on government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Health MECs from across the country updated the Council on their concerns for their provinces.

Representatives from the North West and Limpopo provinces reported a noticeable increase in cases and further raised concerns regarding the reopening of the economy and mines.

The MECs stated that since mineworkers may be returning from other provinces and live within the community, they may be a source of community transmission of COVID-19.
