SA COVID-19 death toll over 12 000

The Health Department has reported another 282 COVID-19 related deaths.

The death toll now tops 12,000.

Eighty-nine more patients died in Gauteng, 66 in the Eastern Cape, 57 in KwaZulu-Natal, 34 in the Western Cape, 20 in North West, 13 in the Free State, and three in the Northern Cape.

In the past 24 hours, 2,258 new cases have been recorded.

This is the lowest daily number since 9 June.

There is now a cumulative total of 592,144 confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Africa.

The total number of tests conducted to date is 3,430,347 with 14,677 new tests conducted.

The recoveries stand at 485,468 translating to a recovery rate of 82 percent.
