Cape Town City 4 – 2 Golden Arrows #DStvPrem

Golden Arrows’ unbeaten start to the season in the DStv Premiership came to an end after a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Cape Town City on Sunday afternoon.

The Citizens were unchanged for the encounter while Arrows made only one alteration, as Matome Mathiane returned to the line-up at the expense of Siboniso Conco.

Thato Mokeke came very close to giving them an early lead in the fourth minute with a looking strike inside the box that took a deflection on its way towards the crossbar but goalkeeper Sifiso Mlungwana parried his effort over the bar.

Craig Martin eventually opened the scoring for Jan Olde Riekerink’s charges in the 14th minute with a great strike at the near post after taking Thabo Nodada’s through ball into his stride.

With Abafana Bes’thende were getting out of their defensive shell in the latter stages of the first stanza, Velemseni Ndwandwe levelled matters ten minutes before the break with a close-range shot after a headed pass by Mathiane.

The visitors had a good chance to go ahead four minutes from the break after Taariq Fielies conceded a penalty by pulling Knox Mutizwa in the box, which allowed the Zimbabwean striker to slot home from 12 yards and put Arrows ahead.

However, Fielies made up for his mistake by finding the equaliser in the 62nd minute with a towering header at the back post after a corner by Bradley Ralani.

Mutizwa had a big chance to restore Arrows’ in the 73rd minute after going one-on-one with Leeuwenburgh but his low shot was saved by the Dutch shot-stopper.

A minute later, the Citizens grabbed the lead after another turnover saw Mduduzi Mdantsane go clear inside the box before rounding Mlungwana to slot into an empty net for his eighth league goal of the campaign.

Lakay sealed the deal for City with their fourth goal in the last five minutes after lobbing the ball the on-rushing Mlungwana to send the side up to the fourth spot.
