Bonang shares her requirements to host a gig

The star jetted off to represent South Africa at a prestigious Nelson Mandela centenary dinner in London this week and just before leaving, she served the tea on what gets her excited.

Bonang could probably have many of the “popular” gigs on TV if she wanted it, but sis says that her career has morphed into something so big that all possible jobs have to fit into her criteria.

“It’s not about doing what’s popular anymore. It is about paying things forward and doing things that are right for me,” she told TshisaLIVE.

B is no longer impressed with the same things as she was when she started out and admitted: “the process of choosing gigs now is different to what it was before”. Sis let us in on her list of requirements:

Bonang

1. Does it fall in line with my continental and global takeover?

2. Is it something that is different?

3. Is it something that my fans will approve of and bring them joy?

4. Will it break a boundary?

5. Will it push me as a person?

“They have to fall into those five categories before I decide to do it or not,” she added.

B has been killing it overseas but said that she was not lost to SA and would always use her home as a base for a global takeover.

“I have always wanted to be a global icon, but it is important for me to be at home and celebrated at home. Even if it’s a radio show or something where people at home still recognise me.”

Talking of radio, people have been pestering sis since she left Metro FM to know if she would be heading back to the airwaves.”To be honest I am so hectic. I am out the country most weeks. I would love to go back but until we find a way for me to do shows while travelling, I have to take a break from it for a while. But it is still very much a part of me.”
