BON Hotels makes a move on KwaZulu-Natal

BON Hotels, a South African-based hospitality company that owns, manages and markets hotels throughout Africa, will add two additional properties in KwaZulu-Natal.
The new hotels are Protea Hotel Empangeni and Protea Hotel Waterfront Richards Bay.
BON Hotel Waterfront Richards Bay offers 75 modern ocean-front and yacht harbour facing rooms, a restaurant, cocktail bar and swimming pool, while
BON Hotel Empangeni has 55 tastefully decorated rooms, an in-house restaurant, bar and meeting rooms.

BON Hotel EmpangeniCEO of BON Hotels, Guy Stehlik, told IOL Travel the company was hoping to make their mark in KwaZulu-Natal, especially since it had not been as successful as their acquisitions in other provinces

Stehlik said the hotels will undergo minor refurbishments to meet BON standards and hoped the transition will be “seamless” as possible.
“We are definitely going to tap into the KZN market, and what a better way to do so than with the hotels in Richards Bay and Empangeni. Richards Bay itself is a huge commercial hub that has the potential to become a hotspot for business and leisure tourists alike,” he said.
BON operates in 37 hotels across the African continent, including Angola, Ethiopia and Namibia. Stehlik said the group’s strategy is to create inter-city tourism circuits to boost the industry and link important centres across South Africa.
In fact, there are plans to expand to Umhlanga and the South Coast.
