The father who threw his baby off a roof in Port Elizabeth will appear in the New Brighton Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Law enforcement officers rescued the one-year-old baby after her father threw her from the roof of a shack in Joe Slovo township in Kwadesi during tense evictions in the area.
The 38-year-old has been charged with attempted murder.
The man was protesting against illegally-built homes being demolished in Joe Slovo.
Police spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge said police grabbed the father while he simultaneously flung his daughter off the roof.
Beetge said a metro police member managed to catch the baby as she was being flung.
People whose houses were destroyed are expected outside the court on Monday morning.
