Equatorial Guinea’s president offers Robert Mugabe asylum

Former Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe has been meeting his old friend Teodoro Obiang Nguema, the president of Equatorial Guinea and he’s offered the ageing former Zimbabwean leader asylum if he needs it.

Obiang met Mugabe at his private mansion in Harare on Friday and Mugabe had a few complaints about the way he’s been treated.

“You should be glad they left you alive.”

That was what Equatorial Guinea president Obiang Nguema told his former ally, Mugabe, when they met for a tete a tete, closely watched by high-ranking ministers from the new Zimbabwe government.

The Standard newspaper says that Obiang stated that Mugabe could have asylum in Equatorial Guinea if he needed it.

But Mugabe, who’s 94, insisted he would die in Zimbabwe.

The ex-Zimbabwe president claimed the military was now spying on his family.
