Gauteng health department officials have admitted their forensic services in Germiston were disrupted this week.
The officials blamed the disturbances on a dispute with workers overprotective gear.
The department said it is now trying to deal with the backlog, as frustrated families wait for the bodies of their loved ones to be released.
Workers say the strike is the result of unfulfilled promises made during the July 2017 demonstration, which lead to a backlog of nearly 200 autopsies.

The Germiston mortuary is understood to be the worst affected with an estimated 60 autopsies still to be processed.
