At approximately 19h30 on Wednesday evening 18 October 2017, Netcare 911 responded to reports of a very serious collision between an LDV and a truck on the N1 northbound before the William Nicol off-ramp, near to the Curzon Road bridge, in the Fourways area.
Reports from the scene indicate that the LDV had significant frontal damage and that the two occupants were trapped in the vehicle. The incident and preceding events will form part of a police investigation.
Netcare 911 was the first EMS service to arrive at the scene and attended to the two men. A twenty-two-year-old man had sustained very serious injuries including multiple fractures and analgesic medication was administered to manage his pain. Tragically a thirty-six-year-old man had died as a result of his severe injuries and documentation pertaining to his death was completed by Netcare 911 and handed over to authorities at the scene.
Both of the men were trapped inside the wreck and firefighters were called upon to use the “Jaws of Life” to free them.
Due to the serious nature of the incident and the injuries sustained, the Netcare 911 specialised helicopter ambulance was called to the scene and the patient was airlifted to hospital for the urgent medical care that he required.
The Fire Department and Metro Police were at the scene.
The road was partially closed and then completely closed for a period of time which resulted in significant delays for motorists travelling from Fourways towards Sunninghill.
