Inside Mugabe’s Blue Roof Palace where his body spent the night

The body of Zimbabwe’s founding father, Robert Gabriel Mugabe, which arrived in the country yesterday from Singapore, is lying in state at his Blue Roof Residence in Borrowdale Brooke, Harare. We take a look at pictures from inside the blue roof as we mourn the passing of the former Zimbabwean President.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa, the First Lady, Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa, Vice President Cde Kembo Mohadi, Cabinet Ministers, Provincial Ministers, Amai Grace Mugabe and family members accompanied the body to the residence.

Earlier, President Mnangagwa addressed mourners, who turned in their numbers to receive the body of the revolutionary icon at the Robert Mugabe International Airport and urged Zimbabweans to remain peaceful, loving and united.

From the airport, the body of Robert Mugabe was taken to One Commando Barracks in Harare, where members of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) had the opportunity to pay tribute to their former Commander-In-Chief.

In Other News – Even in death, Mugabe is giving Mnangagwa a headache

Even in death, former Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe remains an Achilles’ heel for his successor Emmerson Mnangagwa’s legitimacy.

Since 1977, Mnangagwa has been on Mugabe’s side – first as his assistant, then as a bodyguard and then as a trusted minister from 1980, only to leave cabinet between 2000 and 2005, when he lost in parliamentary elections.

Still, Mugabe kept him on the political radar as speaker of parliament, despite Mnangagwa plotting with Jonathan Moyo to effect “leadership change” in the Zanu-PF that would have resulted in a palace coup to remove Mugabe through the infamous Dinyane Declaration in Tsholotsho, Matabeleland North. read more
