28 Gauteng health officials test positive for COVID-19

Twenty-eight health officials have tested positive for COVID-19 in Gauteng. The Gauteng department of health says most cases were mild and did not require hospitalisation, except for one employee who has since been discharged.

The department says the health officials were infected through social circles and not at the workplace, where they have a sufficient supply of personal protective equipment However, some nurses have threatened a stay away because they say PPEs (Personal protective equipment) are in short supply.

Gauteng has just over 1,200 confirmed COVID-19 cases, which is the highest in the country. More than 1,000 people have recovered from the virus in South Africa.​
