At 14H19 Sunday afternoon, Netcare 911 responded to reports of a falls near the Merafe train stop on Tsamaiso Street in Naledi, Soweto.
Reports from the scene alleged that a young male believed to be 13-years-old had fallen from the train he was travelling in.
The boy had sustained a head injury and was found at the bottom of an embankment next to a stream.
Rescue workers had set up a rope and basket system to retrieve his body.
He was declared deceased on the scene.
The train tracks in both directions were shut down.
